5.3 Changed Perception: Growing Critical Awareness

In the 1960s, many Germans continued to block out the Nazi past. Nuremberg's cultural officer Hermann Glaser launched the city's engagement with Nazi history. On his initiative, a multi-media show, unique in Germany, was mounted in the Zeppelin Grandstand in 1984. The picture shows a poster of this first exhibition which bore the title "Fascination and Terror".

In 2001, the Documentation Center, opened in the Congress Hall, replacing the previous exhibition. Architect Günther Domenig's use of oblique angles deliberately flouted the monumental severity of the building.
