The piece of rubble is a good example of how inconvenient history was disposed of conveniently: in 1967, due to their state of disrepair, the Zeppelin Grandstand colonnades were blown up by order of the mayor of Nuremberg. It was the first time that such destruction prompted a heated public debate. In public, the impression arose that the state of the building had provided a welcome opportunity to quickly remove unwanted relics of the Nazi era.
Elsewhere in Nuremberg, large Nazi buildings were removed without any scruples in order to make way for new construction projects.
