4.5 Deportation of Jews from Franconia: From Nuremberg to the Death Camps

The picture shows a group of Jews from Franconia on their way to an assembly point at the edge of the rally grounds in November 1941. For 2,000 people, it was the last stage before their deportation. Once there, they were harassed, mistreated and robbed of their property.

Only 52 people deported to Riga survived. No one returned from Izbica. After a censored postcard from the Izbica ghetto, dated July 1942 and addressed to her friend, all trace was lost of its 16-year-old writer, Miriam Blumenthal.
